Singer Udit Narayan talks about his extensive work with the late singer Lata Mangeshkar.
Singer Udit Narayan on Sunday refused to believe that India’s nightingale Lata Mangeshkar is no more. Narayan considers Tu Mere Samne (Dar, 1993), Mehndi Laga Ke Rakna (Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, 1995) and the title song of Dil Do Bagal Hai (1997), sung alongside the late singer. “Lucky” in itself.
“Main Apne of Go Blessed Samajda Hoon. Jitna com mujhe lata ji k chaat mila, mujhe nahin lakta [mere time ke] Kisi Aur Singer Ko Mila Hoga. I think I am the only one who has sung over 200 songs with Lata Ji. And they are all superhit. I also shared the stage with her about eight times (for live shows). ‘Udit, Tumhari Awas Original High’ she would say. It was as if Lata Mangeshkar had said that Saraswati Devi had blessed me, ”says the 66-year-old singer.
Narayan was devastated to learn that the legend was no more. Calling this a sad news for “Bollywood, the music fraternity and the whole world” Narayan gets emotional and adds “Ek hi Lata ji the aur wo Sally Gain”.
The singer firmly believes that Mangeshkar is an important element in the music history of India and that he will continue to live. “February 6, 2022 is a dark day. She loved me like a brother and blessed me whenever we met. It is a coincidence that she died in Pasanda Panchami. This proves that she is Goddess Saraswati, ”he signs.
