The Telugu action drama starring Chiranjeevi’s actor-son Ram Charan was scheduled to open in theaters on February 4, but was pushed back due to the increase in Govind-19 cases. The film is currently set to release on April 29.
Director Kortala Siva explains why actress Kajal Agarwal’s character was removed from Acharya. The actor shot some scenes for the film in a few days on the first schedule two years ago. Kajal has been paired with Chiranjeevi in the film. He was originally brought in as an alternative to Trisha for the role. Trisha dropped out of the project following some creative differences.
In an interview with ABN Telugu, Siva was asked about removing Kajal’s character from the film. He said, “When we signed Kajal, she was going to play Acharya’s (Chiranjeevi) girlfriend. It was a fun character and we planned to film a song featuring the couple. We filmed 3-4 days with Kajal on the first schedule before the first lockdown of the epidemic. During the epidemics, when I saw the urgency of the pictures we took, I didn’t know if Kajal’s character was necessary for the story.
He said he did not want to do injustice to the status quo heroine. “After watching Rush, I realized that Kajal’s character did not have enough scope. With this kind of character, I felt like I was degrading a heroine of her stature. I told Kajal the same thing and she smiled and said, ‘I hope we go back to work’.
Acharya is about a social reformer who has become a middle-aged Naxalite who fights against the treasury department over the misuse and fraud of temple funds and donations. The film is set to release on April 29.
This is the first time that Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan have acted together in full-length roles. A few years back, Chiranjeevi played a cameo in the Telugu film Bruce Lee: The Fighter starring Ram Charan.
