Arshad won the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award for his portrayal of the circuit, and later reprized his role in the 2006 film Lake Raho Munna Boy. He has now said that the character is ‘stupid’ and would not have accepted it if Sanjay had not acted in the film.
Arshad told the Indian Express, “I did Munna Boy because it was Sanju (Sanjay Dutt), otherwise even Raju (filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani) knew it was a stupid character. It’s really on paper, it’s nothing. Even Makaranth Deshpande said no to the circuit!
Apart from the lead actor, Arshad said the script’s possibilities to accept or reject a role affect him. He explained, “I only listen to any script as an audience. Want to see what I do? It can be any type, anything, but it has to be one that the audience wants to see. After listening to the story, your intuition will tell you whether you want to make that film or not.
Arshad next stars opposite Akshay Kumar, Jacqueline Fernandez and Kriti Sanon in the Bachchan Pandey film. Directed by Farhat Samji and starring Pankaj Tripathi, Sanjay Mishra and Abhimanyu Singh, the Holi release is scheduled for March 18.
Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, the film stars Akshay Kumar as a gangster and Visu as a friend of Arshad Kiruthi’s character Myra Devkar, who accompanies him on the set of filming on Bachchan Pandey.
