Anushka Sharma took to Instagram Stories to share a news article about Twitter CEO Barack Agarwal going on maternity leave for ‘a few weeks’. He praised the move and wrote, “It has become normal.”
Barak and his wife Vineeta Agarwala are expecting their second child. While on leave he will be in touch with his board of directors and will not appoint an interim CEO.
“On Twitter, we encourage and fully support employees who take parental leave in a way that works best for each person,” Laura Jackerman, head of Twitter’s corporate communications, told The Washington Post. “This is a personal decision. We have developed a parental leave plan (support for flexible leave of up to 20 weeks) that is customizable,” he added.
Before the birth of Anushka Sharma’s daughter Wamika on January 11, 2021, Virat Kohli also took paternity leave. When the Indian cricket team was on tour in Australia, he returned after the first Test.
In an informal chat with Steve Smith, Virat said at the time, “This was a decision that was completely clear in my mind. No matter how determined you are to play for your country, this is the most special moment of your life for which you want to be at any cost. It was a blessed time and we are so excited.

Anushka and Virat have kept Wamika out of the public eye. Last month, when India played against South Africa in Cape Town, when Anushka came to cheer Virat on, the official broadcaster of the match put the camera on the stand and exposed Wamika’s face.
In a joint statement, Virat and Anushka reiterated their demand to the media to respect their privacy by not releasing any picture of Wamika, saying they were ‘caught safe’.
